…in mid-afternoon, the world turned white again!

After rain yesterday morning, the sleet, then freezing rain took over. Just before 4 PM (CST), the snow began. “They” forecast a blizzard (NOT), as the winds were never near 35mph, and though it snowed heavily, it did not produce ‘white-out’ conditions for over 3 hours–THAT’S what makes a blizzard!
It was very pretty, but I knew it would be challenge making it to my appointments today…and it was!
Chicagoans are very silly people when it snows, as they figure it will melt eventually, so why bother getting out there to shovel!
Half the time, I had to walk in the street, or through five inches of snow at the side of the walk. It’s as if most of these people never heard of ROCK SALT or other ice-melting products…or maybe they’re just lazy and cheap!
Some walkways had been cleared (and salted!) so nicely; others were thick with ice (it all was re-freezing), and rutted with other people’s boot prints…truly treacherous for this old gal and her trusty cane!
Because I walked slowly and carefully to the train three blocks away, I took advantage of that by stopping to get some shots. Here are close-ups of this icy mix on a neighbor’s Arbor Vitae:

nice shots…we are expecting a blizzard tomorrow (hope so)…you take care in the ice 1000 it looks slippery!
You take care also, smacked…though I know you’re quite used to falling down ‘holes’ and such! I was out today, and though melting was ongoing, those who had not cleared their walkways will find the side grass quite trampled come Spring. Tough going! Stay warm, and I’m certain you’ve got a stock of good food, and something to ward off the chill! ;>) !!!
I prefer your icy photos–much prettier! I can’t say the same for the slushy streets, but the frosted trees are lovely too. Stay safe and cozy! ~ Lily
;>) !!!
I really hate the slush, Lily…it not only messes up my boots, but there are frequently areas of ice underneath, causing me to ‘slip and slide’ a lot! Perhaps I should invest in a short pair of cross-country skis–Haha, can’t you just see this old gal, making really good time when walking?
I love all the images, but I have to say the first two are my absolute favourites.
It’s really a great thing, standing at the window with a cup of coffee, watching snow swirl all around out there, Leanne. I could just watch all day…if it would last that long! We have actually had very little snow this winter…2.5 inches the other day, but because the weather hasn’t been very cold, it began melting within a couple hours.
