For some reason, M. Chevalier was a favorite of my mother’s, back when I was very much younger.
Now, I can see why. No disrespect, but the cavalier Frenchman would have an obvious appeal to a young (then) Greek girl with a very uncertain future*.
*Anastasia married my father, Rudolph, on April 27, 1940. Shortly thereafter, he left the Milwaukee Laborers Union to become a Milwaukee, WI police officer. They both enjoyed ‘Chevalier’, even after his passing.
