Macy’s Washington Street displays…

…bespeak the gift of entertaining, with mostly traditional themes.

Have a look!

But…these beautiful vitrines were not created by Macy’s display staff!

It’s really nice to know that the students seem very interested in carrying on Christmas traditions…and my congratulations to all of them…it’s a marvelous display!

Merry Christmas to all, and don’t forget to leave cookies for Santa, and some treats for the reindeer, too!

Just around the corner…

…is a yellow Magnolia tree, which I’ve photographed for the past six years.

Here it is last Spring, in all its glory:

And this is how it looked this afternoon:

The building on the right has a new tenant and, apparently, they decided to decorate…and it so cheers me to see!

(Tried to get a shot of their flower box, but could get a good enough angle, as the third floor is quite high.

It’s filled with greens and several large ball ornaments like these on the tree.)

MERRY CHRISTMAS to them, and all of you, too!

November’s leaves…

…were blown quickly to the ground after last week’s many windy days, yet their colors and patterns looked more like the finest Oriental rugs.

Even after being trod upon by many, many feet, they still retained their beauty, don’t you think?

Ornamental Cabbage…

…is quite beauteous in autumnal floral displays, don’t you think?

It seems to become an even more attractive plant when it is combined with another delightful Autumn tradition: the simple, yet always gorgeous, Chrysanthemum!

NOTE:  The above images were processed in Photoshop (TM) utilizing the Watercolor filter overlaid with the Diffuse Glow filter (using pure white as the glow color).

These over six feet high Canna plants reside in two huge pots along an entry walk to an apartment building on Eastlake Terrace here in Rogers Park.

Unlike many Cannas, these produce no evidence of flowers, but each mature leaf is approximately two and a half feet in length, and very impressive.

I found that utilizing the Canvas Texture filter in Photoshop (TM) also enhanced the sumptuous colors–see for yourselves!

In certain gardens…

…it seems Summer lingers on…

...as Gardenias continue to bud...

...and slowly transform...

...into full blossoms, perfuming the air...

From my window: Saturday morning bonus

Last evening’s sunset was, I feel, the most spectacular I’ve photographed in the almost-six and a half years I’ve lived here.

What do you think?
